Accessibility statement

Accessibility statement

This statement applies to this website, gatheringthevoices.com. It is run by The Gathering the Voices Association, a Scottish charity run by volunteers. We want as many people as possible to be able to use it. That means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast and text size using your browser or device
  • zoom in to 400% without losing content or functions
  • use the whole website with a keyboard
  • use it with a screen reader, such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack
  • read it on a phone, tablet or computer

How accessible this website is

We have built the website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, level AA. We have not yet had an independent audit, so we cannot promise that every page meets that standard. We test with a keyboard and a screen reader as we add things, and we will update this statement when an audit has been done.

Known problems

We know about these problems and are working on them:

  • Some older documents, such as PDFs of lesson plans and newspaper cuttings, were made before we thought about accessibility. They may not work well with a screen reader.
  • Pictures of handwritten letters and old documents cannot be read as text. Where we have typed out what they say, it is shown under the picture as a transcript; some do not have one yet.
  • Some testimonies do not yet have a full written transcript.
  • Videos from YouTube may not have captions, or have only automatic captions.
  • The interactive map is hard to use with some assistive technology. The same people are always available as a list, in the List tab.
  • The games are not yet fully accessible. They need a mouse, or a mouse and keyboard.

Feedback and contact information

If you find a problem not listed here, need information on this website in a different format (such as a large print, audio or easy read version), or want to ask for a transcript, please use the contact form on this page. Choose Problem with the website as the topic and tell us:

  • the address of the page
  • what the problem is
  • the format you need, if you are asking for information in another format

We will reply as soon as we can. We are volunteers, so please be patient.

Enforcement procedure

If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS). It can advise on your rights and help with complaints about organisations in Scotland, England and Wales.

Technical information about this website's accessibility

The Gathering the Voices Association is committed to making its website accessible, in line with the Equality Act 2010.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, because of the problems listed above.

Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared on 17 October 2026. It is based on our own testing during the build of the website. We will review it each time we make a significant change to the website.
